Abstract

The present study, with a descriptive-analytical and ijtihad approach, reexamines the relationship between new technologies and Islamic worship and attempts to provide a methodological framework for the religious evaluation of the application of technology in the rituals of Hajj and prayer. For this purpose, first, the nature of technology and its distinction from technique as a system of knowledge, process, organization, and values is explained, then the fundamental principles effective in worship - especially the intention of nearness, the rule of avoiding innovation, and maintaining the authenticity of worship along with the major rules of doing no harm and no inconvenience - are analyzed.Based on these principles, the framework of the "assistance/substitution distinction" is formulated: technology is permissible and even preferable to the extent that it is placed in the position of rational prerequisites for compliance and does not replace a part or condition of worship, does not distort the intention and persistence of intention, is effective in removing hardship and warding off harm, and does not conflict with Islamic custom and the dignity of rituals. This framework is tested in two application-oriented fields: in Hajj, the ratio of crowd management tools, intelligent movement guidance, and the use of new facilities in Tmonitoring movements and recitation, is analyzed, provided that the intention and the act of worship are not substituted. interventions during the act, and explaining jurisprudential-engineering instructions consistent with the rituals.
