Extensive protection of prisoners of war has been provided in international humanitarian law treaties, particularly the Third Geneva Convention, through numerous provisions, although not under the specific designation of "wounded captive." The existence of these provisions in the international legal system underscores the necessity of clarifying the corresponding rulings for wounded captives in Islamic jurisprudence, since Islamic legal sources and jurisprudential texts recognize the wounded captive as a specific category of captives with particular rulings prescribed for them. Based on the opinions of Imami jurists, wounded captives can be classified into two distinct categories: those captured during combat and those captured after combat. To date, researchers in jurisprudence and law have not examined this important subject independently and comprehensively. Therefore, this research, using library-based sources and a descriptive-analytical method, addresses this issue and concludes that although there are differences among jurists regarding the ruling on wounded captives and their categories, the view most consistent with Islamic legal principles in this regard requires the release of such captives. At the same time, this ruling is contingent upon certain conditions and characteristics, the most important of which have been examined in this study.
