One of the prohibitions of ihram (Arabic: احرام) is istidhlāl (Arabic: استظلال)- seeking or remaining in shade while traveling. Among Imāmiyya (Arabic: امامیّه) Shiite jurists there is disagreement regarding the ruling(hukm) on istiẓlāl, but the majority hold it to be prohibited. Among those who prohibit it, many believe the prohibition istidhlāl is specific to sheltering from the sun and from rain; but some other jurists have opined maintain that a Muhrim (arabic: محرم) must not shelter himself from any atmospheric phenomenon, whether sunlight, rainfall, storm, heat, or cold. Proponents of these jurists for proving their claim have cited to lexicologists’ opinions and removing(cancellation) the particularity (specifity) from the two instances mentioned in the Islamic narrations. However, contemplation in the words of the lexicologists shows that agreement with this theory is impossible, and the arguments offered by them are unable to prove the possibility of removing particularity(specificity). Therefore, it seems that the well-known view - which confines istiẓlāl to sunshine and rainfall - is the more reliable.
